Abstrakty

The nouns an argument is built out of. Every one of them ends in a suffix you can then reuse.

  1. zależność

    noun · feminine

    EN
    dependence; a relationship between things
    RU
    зависимость

    Zależność między ceną a jakością.

The relationship between price and quality.

The -ość suffix turns an adjective into an abstract noun, and it is productive: zależny gives zależność, wątpliwy gives wątpliwość.

  2. przesłanka

    noun · feminine

    EN
    premise, grounds
    RU
    предпосылка

Nie ma przesłanek, żeby go podejrzewać.

There are no grounds to suspect him.

In logic a premise; in law the grounds for a decision. Usually plural in the legal sense.

  3. sprzeczność

    noun · feminine

    EN
    contradiction
    RU
    противоречие

To stoi w sprzeczności z regulaminem.

    That contradicts the rules.

Stać w sprzeczności z is the fixed phrase. Same root as bezsprzecznie — with and without argument.

  4. zjawisko

    noun · neuter

    EN
    phenomenon
    RU
    явление

    Ciekawe zjawisko społeczne.

    An interesting social phenomenon.

From zjawić się, to appear — the thing that showed up. Exactly the derivation of RU явление.

  5. tożsamość

    noun · feminine

    EN
    identity
    RU
    идентичность, личность

    Dowód tożsamości poproszę.

    Proof of identity, please.

From tożsamy, identical. Dowód tożsamości is the formal name for the ID card you met as a dowód.

  6. dorobek

    noun · masculine

    EN
    body of work, achievements
    RU
    наследие, достижения

    Bogaty dorobek naukowy.

A substantial body of academic work.

From dorobić — everything you have made along the way. Warmer and more personal than osiągnięcia.

  7. przypuszczenie

    noun · neuter

    EN
    supposition, guess
    RU
    предположение

    To tylko moje przypuszczenie.

    That's only my guess.

Weaker than a hipoteza and much weaker than a wniosek. Polish grades certainty carefully and expects you to as well.

  8. skutek

    noun · masculine

    EN
    effect, result
    RU
    следствие, результат

    Skutki będą widoczne za rok.

The effects will show in a year.

Skuteczny, from the same root, means effective — the adjective you will meet far more often than the noun.

  9. konsekwencja

    noun · feminine

    EN
    consistency; a consequence
    RU
    последовательность; последствие

    Podziwiam jego konsekwencję.

    I admire his consistency.

In the singular it usually means sticking to a course; in the plural it means what follows from it. Two nearly opposite readings decided by number alone.

  10. obieg

    noun · masculine

    EN
    circulation, flow
    RU
    оборот, обращение

    Dokument jest już w obiegu.

    The document is in circulation.

From obiegać, to run around — the ob- of obejść się and objazd. Obieg dokumentów is a workflow in office Polish.
