Bank i podatki

Money, formally. These are the words on the screen when something has gone wrong with a transfer.

  1. przelew

    noun · masculine

    EN
    bank transfer
    RU
    перевод

    Zrobię przelew jeszcze dzisiaj.

    I'll make the transfer today.

From przelać, to pour across. Przelew ekspresowy arrives in minutes and costs extra; the ordinary one moves in sessions.

  2. rachunek

    noun · masculine

    EN
    account; bill
    RU
    счёт

    Podaj numer rachunku.

    Give me the account number.

Both a bank account and a bill, exactly as RU счёт does. Konto is the everyday word for the account; rachunek is what the forms say.

  3. saldo

    noun · neuter

    EN
    balance
    RU
    баланс, остаток

    Saldo na koncie: zero.

    Account balance: zero.

Indeclinable, like most Italian borrowings in Polish finance. Stan konta is the everyday way to say the same thing.

  4. prowizja

    noun · feminine

    EN
    fee, commission
    RU
    комиссия

    Bank pobiera prowizję za wypłatę.

The bank charges a fee for withdrawals.

Pobierać is the verb banks use for taking money from you — literally to collect, which is gentler than it feels.

  5. odsetki

    noun · plural

    EN
    interest
    RU
    проценты

    Odsetki naliczają się codziennie.

    Interest accrues daily.

Plural only. Russian проценты means both the percentage and the money; Polish keeps procent for the rate and odsetki for what it earns you.

  6. podatek

    noun · masculine

    EN
    tax
    RU
    налог

Podatek dochodowy trzeba rozliczyć do końca kwietnia.

Income tax has to be filed by the end of April.

Podatek dochodowy is income tax, VAT is VAT. The deadline is the last day of April and everybody knows it.

  7. rozliczyć

    verb · perfective

    EN
to settle up, to file (a return)
    RU
    рассчитаться, отчитаться

Muszę rozliczyć PIT za zeszły rok.

I have to file last year's tax return.

Rozliczenie is the noun. PIT is the return form, pronounced as the English word, and rozliczyć PIT is the annual ritual.

  8. faktura

    noun · feminine

    EN
    invoice
    RU
    счёт-фактура

    Poproszę fakturę na firmę.

An invoice made out to the company, please.

Wystawić fakturę is to issue one — the same wystawić as putting something out. Paragon is the ordinary till receipt.

  9. przelać

    verb · perfective

    EN
to transfer (money); to pour across
    RU
    перевести (деньги)

    Przelałem ci pieniądze wczoraj.

I transferred you the money yesterday.

The verb behind przelew, and prze- doing exactly what it did in przepisać and przejechać — moving a thing across.

  10. zaległość

    noun · feminine

    EN
    arrears, backlog
    RU
    задолженность

    Mam zaległości w opłatach.

    I'm behind on the bills.

From zalegać, to lie unpaid. Usually plural, and it covers unpaid bills, unfiled paperwork and unread email alike.
